brazilian batida, a lovely drink.

Apparently there was some confusion about what I was putting in the giveaway box for my 100th post! No, there is no alcohol involved, but I thought it would be fun to share one of my favorite evening beverages as part of the celebration. So to clear up any confusion I have separated the posts. This is my drink recipe:

When I was very young we lived in Brazil. I have wonderfully fond memories of that time. The food is probably one of the biggest "chunks" of memory. The street vendors selling acaraje with vatapa and crunchy dried shrimp. The smell of fresh ground coffee that hits you before you even step into the grocery store.

Part of the fun of blogging is that from time to time you run across people cooking the foods you remember but haven't had in years. Since this is my 100th post (YAY!) I thought we should celebrate with a drink from Brazil and maybe a little giveaway. I say little, because really, it is. I'm a young blog and the 100th kind of crept up on me when I wasn't looking. And truthfully, do 6-word-Saturdays really count?

So here we have a modified version of my favorite Brazilian drink, the Batida. It's similar to a Caipirinha, and it may look like other drinks, but this is my favorite (and no, I wasn't drinking it when I was 9):
Mix equal parts (usually 1 oz, unless you are really thirsty) Cashaca (Brazilian rum), freshly squeezed juice of a lime, water. Mix with a dollop of honey or agave (traditionally made with sugar), to taste. I like the mix of tart and sweet, K likes his very tart. Mix well and add ice cubes or crushed ice. Enjoy!
If you like a bit weaker drink you can add more water and/or more lime juice. I'm sorry I don't have a picture to offer, but I'm usually not in photographer mode when I'm enjoying my beverage! Now for the giveaway.

Thanks for joining me, it's been a fantastic 100 and I can't wait to see what comes next! Enjoy!
